Ryder Cup hero receives signed club Car buggy

Clubcar, the world’s largest manufacturer of small-wheel, zero emissions electric vehicles, has helped victorious 2012 European Ryder Cup captain, José María Olazábal, reunite with an ‘old friend’ on home soil at this week’s Open de España at Parador de El Saler.

Since the historic victory for the Europeans at Medinah in September, Club Car – an Official Supplier to the European Ryder Cup Team 2012 – has fitted the Captain’s Car with a special plate signed by his winning team.

José María was presented with his unique car as he prepared for this week’s European Tour event in Spain, and was joined by close friend and a member of last year’s European Team, Sergio Garcia for the handover.

Kevin Hart, Club Car’s Sales Director Golf for the EMEIA regions, said: “It has now become part of tradition that we present these signed Club Car vehicles – they offer the Captain an incredible souvenir of The Ryder Cup and, for José María, it brings back many great memories from Medinah Country Club.”

Club Car has a rich history with The Ryder Cup – it has been associated with the event since 1999. Last year it supplied vehicles for both Captains, all Vice-Captains, all team and match officials, as well as all on-course television and event logistics.

In total it provided 358 vehicles – 14 golf cars, 111 four-seater passenger transporters and 233 utility vehicles – although there were more than 750 Club Car vehicles on site in total during the event.
