Andre Villas-Boas, Tottenham Hotspur manager and Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough donator, comments:

“Sir Bobby is a true legend of the game, a great man, a great manager and a real gentleman. I often think of him and the inspiration he gave me not only at Porto but throughout his life. The fact that so many fellow managers and people around the world are supporting this campaign speaks more about his legacy than I ever could.

“It is particularly poignant that The FA’s National Football Day, celebrating 150 years of football, has been named after Sir Bobby, as he influenced everyone who ever met him with his enthusiasm and knowledge of the game; from grassroots to top football management levels.

“That Bobby is fighting against cancer even now shows that even though he was taken from us his spirit will never die. I am proud to support the Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough Campaign supporting Sir Bobby’s charity and hope fans across the country and throughout the world will do the same.”

Mark Robson, Sir Bobby’s son and part of the Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough committee, said: “Sadly, cancer is likely to affect every one of us in one way or another and my family knows first hand the pain it can cause. That’s why we are so committed to continuing the work started by my father in supporting research for new treatments. The online auction is a fantastic platform to help us raise crucial funds for these charities and we are looking forward to the auction going live in October.”

Gina Long, Founder, concludes: “I am overwhelmed by Andre’s donation. I met Andre at an event to mark what would have been Sir Bobby’s 80th Birthday in February and he expressed a strong desire to help with our amazing fundraising but what has been offered today is above and beyond what we could have hoped! We encourage everyone to register for the online auction now as to not miss out on this and all the other great prizes.”
