How To Win TG’s Fantasy Golf Game

After eight months and 33 tournaments across the European and PGA Tours, long-time leader Rob Gebhardt beat off the competition of over 15,000 rival managers to win the 2012 Today’s Golfer Fantasy Golf game.

We spoke to the 20-handicapper about how he managed it before he jetted off to his star prize of a five-night holiday to the La Manga Club in Spain.

“I couldn’t believe I scored 417 points for The Masters and had such a great lead after the first week. I maintained it and started to believe I had a chance of winning after Ernie Els worked his magic at The Open,” said Gebhardt.

“Rory McIlroy was really important for me, especially in the later tournaments. Even as one of the most expensive players it was hard not consider him in any competition he entered because he had such a great season.

“Louis Oosthuizen was my most selected player because he seemed to be in the mix at all the big events – he got me a lot of points in the double and triple point tournaments. There were three cheaper players who were also big for me. Peter Hanson was very consistent all season, Scott Piercy scored well the few times I selected him and Nicolas Colsaerts was a bargain at $1.4m.”

As he prepares to defend his crown, Gebhardt offered some advice for wannabe winners, saying: “It’s all about doing your homework. The biggest tip I could offer is to check which golfers have played the course before.

“I found using the bookmakers’ odds as a guide helped and also consider the picks that Today’s Golfer select in their weekly preview on www.todays-golfer.com. And remember, it’s a long competition so don’t give up if you have one bad week, there is always time to catch up.”
