5 rounds a day in 5 countries in 5 days?

Golfing pals Bob Warner and Andy Norris (pictured) are just weeks away from the ultimate golfing test – the Five5s Golf Challenge.

The Five5s Golf Challenge is a golfing marathon which will see the intrepid duo play 5 rounds of golf each day, for 5 days, on 5 courses, in 5 different countries and, all being well, raising £5k each for the Seve Foundation and Cancer Research UK. That’s 25 rounds, 125 miles of walking, 1,000 miles of travel and well over 4,000 shots.

The challenge will start in Ireland on 23 June and will continue through Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales before finishing in England on 27 June. Bedfordshire pair Andy (33) and Bob (35) are optimistic they can stay the most gruelling of tests.

Bob initially thought of the idea last year after doing the Macmillan Longest Day golf challenge, saying: “We both like a challenge and decided to take this on. We are doing this because we want to do something unique, record breaking and slightly mad for a great cause and personal achievement.

“We chose the charity because it fits with our challenge and with an illness that is close to my family. My sister in law, like Seve, lost her battle with a brain tumour. The money we raise will specifically go towards a research project to find cures for child brain cancer.”

Their first golfing port of call will be Concra Wood GC before moving on to Hilton Templepatrick GC. On Tuesday night they travel by ferry to Stranraer and arrive at Portpatrick GC in the early hours of Wednesday 25th, again teeing off at first light.

On Wednesday night they transfer from car to motorhome and travel 5 and half hours to Llandudno Maesdu GC to play rounds 16-20. They finally head 3 and a half hours south on Thursday night to arrive at the Three Locks GC near Milton Keynes to complete the arduous golfing marathon.

Added Bob: “We have many supporters who have helped us to put this challenge together including Hampshire-based Marquis Motorhomes and Caravans (www.marquisleisure.co.uk/five-golf) who have agreed to provide them with a motorhome for the Scotland-Wales-England leg of the challenge.”

Other backers include Today’s Golfer and Tourism Ireland, the latter having covered the cost of accommodation and ferries in Ireland, while Royal & Awesome have donated some trousers and shorts for the first two days.
