Wales – Green shoots and Master strokes
Spring has sprung, so dust off those clubs and gear up for another great season of golf in Wales. We’re a small country, but we punch well above our weight in golfing terms – we’re home to more than 200 courses and a dazzling range of playing experiences.
You’ll find rugged championship links (a Welsh speciality) at places like Royal St David’s at Harlech, Aberdovey on the Mid Wales coast and dune-studded Pyle & Kenfig in the south. Fans of parkland courses will lap up mountainous Cradoc in the Brecon Beacons, the top-class Rolls of Monmouth and the gorgeously green Cottrell Park near Cardiff – to name but three.
2015 is going to be a great golfing year for spectators too. In May, the Wales Senior Open takes place at Celtic Manor Resort, Newport which also hosts the Celebrity Cup in July, where stars of sport and entertainment compete in aid of charity.
And if you really want to plan ahead, put some dates in your diary – in 2016 Royal Porthcawl hosts the British Amateur Championship and in 2017, the Senior Open Championship returns to this world-class but refreshingly unstuffy links course. We’ll see you there.

Celtic Manor Resort, Royal Porthcawl, and two of the qualifying courses, Southerndown and Pyle & Kenfig, have all joined up to offer a fantastic prize of:-
- Three nights’ bed and breakfast accommodation for two people (sharing a twin or a double room) at The Celtic Manor Resort hotel.
- A round of golf on either the Roman Road or Montgomerie Course. Use of a buggy on each course. Use of the Forum Health Club’s facilities.
- A round of golf at each of Royal Porthcawl, Pyle & Kenfig and Southerndown Golf Clubs.
- Travel to the area is not included, however, travel expenses incurred in order to take up the prize will be reimbursed by Visit Wales to a value of £150 (receipts will be required).
- Tee times must be reserved at the time of booking.
- The break is available until 30 June 2016.
