This drone will bring you anything you want – while you’re out on the course

We’ve found ourselves talking about golf-related robots an awful lot lately. First, there was the RoboGolfPro, which you hold onto while it makes the perfect swing, allowing you to copy the movements of whichever top pro you choose. And then there was the robot called Eldrick that made a hole-in-one to the delight of thousands of watching spectators during the Waste Management Open.

Now, robotics look like they’re about to play an ever bigger role in golf, after the news that Japanese e-commerce giant (you probably know them better as Play.com) is using drones to fly drinks, snacks and replacement golf balls to golfers while they’re out on the course.

The test is limited to just one golf course in Japan at the moment, but if it proves successful, Rakuten will roll it out to other Japanese courses and then other countries.

They’d better hope Jason Day isn’t playing…

NEXT: Is Jason Day about to dominate like Tiger Woods?
