Scottie Scheffler’s Masters win in numbers: The key stats behind his second victory at Augusta

Scottie Scheffler credited his short game as the key area of his second Masters victory. But what do his numbers for the week say?

To win at Augusta National you have to do everything well and, right now, Scheffler is a man who is doing just that.

He’s yet to shoot a round over par this year and even in Friday’s brutal conditions at Augusta he managed to knock his ball around in a level-par 72 – as important to his victory as his weekend performance.

Scheffler shot rounds of 66 (-6), 72 (E), 71 (-1), 68 (-4) to join Tiger Woods as the only men to win multiple Masters while World No.1.

Only Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Seve Ballesteros won at least two Masters titles at a younger age than Scheffler (27).

He played the par 4s in level par, was two-under for the par 3s, and nine-under for the par-5s. He hit 79% of fairways (44/56), placing him T10th for the week, and 70% of greens (46/72, T7th). When he had to scramble, he did it well with a 65% success rate (17/26, T10th). He had 109 putts across the four days.

Eagles were few and far between across the board this week, but Scheffler managed one at a key time – the 13th on Saturday when he appeared to be going backward. He made 20 birdies, 41 pars, nine bogeys, and just one double.

He averaged 305.7 yards with his drives and 1.5 putts per green. He was delighted to one putt on the 72nd hole having four-putted there when he won in 2022. Scheffler’s putting had previously been his Achilles heel, but getting the world’s leading putting coach on board has paid dividends.

Perhaps one key number that won’t be in the official stats is fourth. That’s where Scheffler says golf will rank in his priorities once his child is born in the next couple of weeks. The others? Wife Meredith and his faith.
