Pop superstar Justin Timberlake took time out of his Euopean tour to play the 2007 Open venue last week.

As word got out that the American was playing Carnoustie, hundreds of fans turned up to see him play. The 26-year-old six-handicapper then signed autographs as he finished.

A spokesman for Carnoustie Links management told the Daily Record newspaper: “With it being a public course, there was no way of keeping fans away from them like you could at a private course.

“So as soon as he was spotted, lots of young girls and kids came to see him.”
