Masters betting guide

Masters week is finally here. The first Major of the season promises to be an incredible spectacle with so many potential stories in the offing.

Can Tiger Woods challenge again? Who will be world number one on Monday? Will a European Tour member make it four in a row or can the Americans and the PGA Tour hit back? Will we have a British winner for the first time since Nick Faldo in 1996?

All these questions will be answered this week and with just a couple of days until the Masters tees off, now is the time to make your predictions – and hopefully win a few pounds and pennies in the process.

Here are TG’s hot tips if you fancy a punt this week:

Phil Mickelson to win
The defending champion has a sensational record at Augusta. In the last 10 years he’s won three Green Jackets and finished in the top five on five other occasions. Coming off the back of a win in Houston he’s in perfect shape. If you don’t want to risk it all on a win, backing him each-way is a great way to offset any potential losses from other bets.
Odds: 6/1

Martin Laird top debutant
The American-based Scot has already won on the PGA Tour this season to make himself a firm fixture in the world’s top 50 – with more expected. Rickie Fowler is his main competition in this category but Laird’s consistency could see him through.
Odds: 5/1

Hunter Mahan each-way
The American has finished T10 and T8 in the last two years. He hasn’t missed a cut in nine starts this season and has returned five top 10s.
Odds: 30/1

Hole-in-one
At evens betting that there will be a hole-in-one could be a good way to double your money. There have been seven in the last seven tournaments.
Odds: Evens
