johnnie walker day one

A golfer from Worksop leads the Johnnie Walker European Tour event at Gleneagles. But it’s not World No.2 Lee Westwood, it’s Mark Foster.

The 36-year-old shot an incredible 66 to take the lead after the opening round. Wasps descended on the course and many players complained of them interfering with play.

Foster simply kept going… at one point putting with a wasp resting on his ball. “I knew it would take off as soon as I hit it,” he said.

Foster’s form has been building all summer and he had chances to win the BMW Internatrional and French Open.

Peter Lawrie, Felipe Aguilar and Thomas Bjorn were one shot behind Foster.

Fog delayed the start of play which meant that some players had to come back on Friday morning and finish their opening rounds. Colin Montgomeries was one of those players and he managed to record a solid 70.
