pga tour roundup

There was plenty of drama at the Wyndham Championship on Sunday afernoon as players tried to make it into the PGA Tour’s top 125 players to qualify for next week’s FedEx Cup play-off event at The Barclays.

Ernie Els and Padraig Harrington were two big names on the verge of missing out and needed a good week.

Els duly delivered and moved up to 118th – still a far cry from being top of the list a year ago. And Harrington had a nervous wait after his final round of 68. But he eventually made it… just! He finished 124th.

American Webb Simpson took the honours to claim his first win on Tour. He shot a 67 in the final round to win by three shots. There were a few old favourites in contention as they desperately tried to creep into the top 125. Vijay Singh finished tied fourth and Camilo Villegas ended tied 9th after failing to show any form for a while.

The English contingent had a poor week with only Paul Casey making the cut. Ian Poulter missed the cut but at 114th, will play in the opening FedEx Cup event. Luke Donald and Lee Westwood did not play but have already qualified.

Tiger Woods will not be at The Barclays next week as he failed to make the top 125 and he decided not to play last week due to family commitments. A strange choice some would say as he battles to find some form.
