Fantasy Golf: Singapore Open preview

The Today’s Golfer Fantasy Golf game, in association with Your Golf Travel, continues in Asia this week at the European Tour’s Singapore Open.

The Serapong Course at Sentosa GC, situated right next to the bustling Singapore Harbour, stages the tournament again. The Tanjong Course was also used in the last two events but the tournament reverts back to one course this year.

The 7,372-yard par 71 Serapong Course is a flat parkland layout has proved a happy hunting ground for good ball strikers and accurate players.

The tournament is co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour so a sprinkling of world class talent is joined by a lot of Asian players hoping to make an impact like last year’s runner-up Juvic Pagunsan.

Here is TG’s six-man team for the Singapore Open:

Rory McIlroy, $5.0m
The world number one has three wins and a runners-up finish in his last six starts, all against world class fields. He finished 4th here in 2008 and would wrap up the Race to Dubai with a top 10.

Adam Scott, $3.4m
The Australian is a three-time winner at Sentosa, including most recently in 2010. He’s on really good form with five top 10s in his last nine starts and an 8th in last week’s WGC-HSBC Champions.

Louis Oosthuizen, $2.6m
The 2010 Open champion has entered the top 10 in the world with six top 6s in 10 starts. He boasts one of the best swings on Tour and looked like winning last week before settling for T4 after a disappointing weekend.

Shane Lowry, $1.4m
The 25-year-old followed up his first victory as a pro at the Portugal Masters with a 5th at the BMW Masters and 32nd last week. He finished T13 here last year.

Thongchai Jaidee, $1.2m
The Thai is always competitive on Asian soil and enters this week on an encouraging run of T15-T8-T16-T21. He has a couple of top 20s in the Singapore Open.

Thorbjorn Olesen, $0.8m
The young Dane has been hugely impressive this season and captured his first European Tour win earlier in the season. He finished T11 in a world class field at the WGC-HSBC Champions last week.
