Adam Scott chasing 2013 majors ‘double’

Adam Scott is looking to slip under the radar and lay last year’s Open ghosts at Lytham to rest for good.

After carding a 3rd round of 70, the Aussie is dangerously lurking at just three shots off the lead and he’s quietly confident of adding the Claret Jug to the Green Jacket he won earlier this year after winning the Masters.

Scott looked a comfortable victor at Lytham but came to grief coming down the stretch and allowed Ernie Els to deny him of his first major.

But that’s all in the past now and Scott reckons he’s only looking ahead – not back, reflecting on those dark days.

He stressed: “Tomorrow the spotlight is going to be on two guys (Westwood and Woods), it looks like, at the moment. And that’s great. But as soon as you do anything out there, you’re in the spotlight, too. There aren’t that many holes to go.

“I think I said on Wednesday it would be a fairytale if I won the Masters and Open in the same year. But fairytales do occasionally happen and I’m not counting myself out of it at all.

“I feel like I’ve got nothing really to lose tomorrow and Majors to gain. So that’s certainly a nice feeling, whereas before in some ways it was getting to the point where you’re hoping it was going to happen tomorrow.

“It is absolutely a weight off your shoulders to have the first major under my belt,” he confirmed. “But it’s a long way off. The course can turn around on you in a heartbeat if you’re not careful. I’ll be treading cautiously tomorrow.

“I haven’t thought about the entirety of what happened last year at all. I’ve just taken the couple of bits that I wanted to and regard it as an experience. And the way I remember it only as a great week so I’m done with that.”
