Can Sergio Garcia triumph again at Muirfield?

Don’t rule out Sergio Garcia tomorrow, the Spaniard giving himself a fighting chance with a 3rd round 68 (+3).

Garcia’s display was arguably the round of the day and means he can go into tomorrow with an outside chance of securing his long-awaited first major win.

Muirfield is a happy hunting ground for Garcia who claimed the 1998 Amateur Championship on the East Lothian links.

A similar showing on Sunday could well see him become the second Spanish – after the one and only Seve Ballesteros – to hold aloft the Claret Jug.

He admits:” I’ve always said this (The Open) , as an individual tournament, is definitely my favourite and it would be nice to win it.”

Garcia was well pleased with his form but knows there is still a lolt of hard work to do. He added: “I finally felt like I knew what I was doing out there. But it wasn’t easy. It was definitely breezier than it was yesterday.

“But finally I was able to hit some good shots and was able to trust my shots a little bit better. And thanks to that, I was able to score nicely.”

Mind you, he and playing partner Padraig Harrington didn’t enjoy being put on the clock.” I think it’s difficult when you’re on the clock. It’s difficult with anybody that is struggling because it’s always going to take a little bit more time.

“It feels like you have to make up for that time a little bit. I think we tried as hard as we could, both of us, and we managed to get back on time on the 14th. So, you know, the last four or five holes were a little bit better.”
