European Tour Golfer Retires After Shooting +21 Through Six Holes

World number 1,522 Jakub Svoboda has retired from the first round of the Trophee Hassan II on the European Tour after a score of 21-over-par through his first six holes.

The Czech golfer, who qualified for the event in Morocco through Category 5 – a National/Regional Order of Merit – racked up four sevens and two nines before withdrawing.

Playing round the tough Golf du Palais Royal layout, the 20-year-old started with a double bogey, before adding a quadruple, quintuple, treble, double and finally another quintuple bogey.

Had Svoboda gone on to finish, he could have threatened Mark James’ long-standing record of 111 at the 1978 Italian Open.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first embarrassing day at the office for Svoboda, who shot 80-75 in his European Tour debut in 2011 and a 83-82 at the 2012 European Tour qualifying school.

On the Challenge Tour, he has also tallied up a 88-79 at the 2012 Norwegian Challenge, a 83-85 at the 2012 English Challenge and a 91-84 at the 2012 Credit Suisse Challenge.

Unsurprisingly, he is yet to make a cut.
