Senior stars to shine at newlook Mottram Hall

Mottram Hall, Cheshire, will kickstart De Vere’s championship golf season after being named as the new host venue for the ISPS HANDA PGA Seniors Championship from June 6-9.

The announcement is recognition of the venue’s burgeoning reputation, which will be further underlined by the completion of a major £6 million renovation in April.

Legends from the world of golf are expected to compete, in what is widely regarded as one of the premier tournaments on the European Senior Tour schedule.

2012 Rookie of the Year, Paul Wesselingh, is the defending champion and will headline an event that in recent years has welcomed Ryder Cup Captains Ian Woosnam, Sam Torrance, and Mark James, as well as former Masters and Open Championship winner, Sandy Lyle, and ex-Ryder Cup players, Barry Lane and Costantino Rocca.

Daniel Hodson, De Vere’s Director of Golf, noted, “We’ve had five great years at Slaley Hall, and we’re delighted that Mottram Hall will host the PGA Seniors Championship for the first-time.

“The resort has made significant investments and is now in the ideal position to welcome such a prestigious event. The course is in great shape and will provide the players with a suitable challenge, while the off-course developments are truly impressive and will rightly position Mottram Hall as one of the premier golf resorts in the country.”

The ISPS HANDA PGA Seniors Championship is one of only a handful of professional golf tournaments held in the UK this year and will provide golf fans with the unique opportunity to watch some of the game’s most recognisable faces, as well as a host of De Vere ambassadors in the build-up to the event, such as cricket legend Freddie Flintoff, rugby legend Gavin Hastings, Harry Redknapp, and 8-time Order of Merit winner, Colin Montgomerie.

Players will enjoy luxurious dining and accommodation, as they compete in the only four-day event on the European Senior Tour schedule, outside of the Senior Major Championships.

The prestigious event is a fitting occasion in which to unveil the impressive changes to the resort, considered by many as one of the best in the UK.

De Vere has long been home to some of the most prestigious events in golf, including The Belfry, four-time host of The Ryder Cup.
