David Lynn wins Portugal Masters

David Lynn shot a closing 63 to win the Portugal Masters by one and claim his first European Tour title since his KLM Open win nine years ago.

The 39-year-old was eight-under for his round to set a clubhouse target of 18-under-par that proved unbeatable, with South Africa’s Justin Walters closest a shot behind.

Lynn started the fourth round in 16th place and came back from six shots off the pace, making nine birdies and a bogey. Having birdied the 17th, he then enjoyed a stroke of fortune on the last after his approach narrowly escaped the water.

Overnight leader Paul Waring shot a level-par final round to tie for third with Scotland’s Stephen Gallacher and Austrian Bernd Wiesberger.

Jamie Donaldson and Ross Fisher both finished the week well, while Scott Jamieson failed to back up his stunning third-round of 60, suffering three bogies on the back nine for a one-over par 72 to fade to a tie for 13th.
