Fantasy Golf: BMW Masters preview

The next tournament in the TG Fantasy Golf game is the first event of the European Tour’s inaugural Final Series, the BMW Masters at Lake Malaren GC, Shanghai, China.

It’s the second year this tournament has taken place at the 7,607-yard par 72 course designed by Jack Nicklaus – the course itself has only been open just over two years.

The length of the course favours big hitters and there is some room for error on the reasonably flat layout, however anything too wayward will be punished by large bunkers and numerous water hazards.

The greens feature some subtle slopes and borrows so accurate iron play will be rewarded with easier birdie putts and a good touch will be required when approaches find the wrong parts of the green.

Here is TG’s six-man team for the BMW Masters:

Rory McIlroy, £5.5m
It’s been a winless and disappointing 2013 for McIlroy, but he finished second in Korea last week and eight top sixes in nine starts in China. He was second in this event last year and won the Shanghai Masters at Lake Malaren in 2011.

Martin Kaymer, £2.5m
Kaymer is another former world number one who’s had a frustrating season. He’s without a win in 2013 but he’s notched seven top 10s and only missed three cuts in 24 starts this year. Finished T11 here last year.

Jamie Donaldson, £1.9m
The world number 41 was the first round leader after an opening 62 last year – eventually settling for a T16. He enjoys playing in China and has six top 20s in his last 12 starts, including a T6 last time out at the Portugal Masters.

Henrik Stenson, £1.8m
The Swede hasn’t played since winning the Tour Championship and FedEx Cup on the PGA Tour but his form simply can’t be ignored. Two wins, two seconds and two thirds in his last eight tournaments says it all.

Bernd Wiesberger, £1.4m
Wiesberger is on the verge of breaking into the world’s top 50 thanks to six top fives in his last 16 starts, including a win in Indonesia. He’s inside the top 26 on the European Tour in driving distance, green in regulation and putts per GIR.

Ross Fisher, £1.3m
The former Ryder Cupper is returning to form with four top eights in his last five starts and will benefit from playing in Perth last week, which is in the same time zone as Shanghai. He’s second on Tour in stroke average and fifth for greens in regulation.
