Fantasy Golf: Shriners Hospitals for Children Open preview

It’s the 2013 TG Fantasy Golf game’s final stop on the PGA Tour this season at the catchily-named Shriners Hospitals for Children Open at TPC Summerlin, Las Vegas – the second event of the PGA Tour’s 2013-14 season.

There has been a tournament here in October since 1992 but the 7,243-yard par 71 TPC Summerlin has only been the stand-alone host since 2008.

It has large putting surfaces that will run at about 11 on the Stimpmeter (relatively slow by PGA Tour standards) and has traditionally ranked as one of the easiest par 71s on the PGA Tour.

Extra bunkering has been added to the 7th, 12th, 13th and 18th holes for this year’s event but it will still be a relatively straightforward challenge from tee to green.

The weather forecast is set fair and wind isn’t going to be a factor so it’s likely to be a birdie-fest.

Here is TG’s six-man team for the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open:

Webb Simpson, £2.8m
Simpson finished fourth at the Tour Championship prior to a solid week at the Presidents Cup where he went 2W-1L-2H. His first start at TPC Summerlin since a T4 in 2010 and his Major-winning pedigree should come to the fore.

Nick Watney, £2.4m
It was a disappointing summer for Watney but he surged to T9-T35-2-T14 record in the FedEx Cup Play-offs in his last four starts. The Las Vegas resident has finished T6-2-T10 here the last three years with a scoring average of 66.67.

Zach Johnson, £2.2m
The top ranked player in the field at number 11 in the world recorded a win and six other top 10s in eight events prior to the Presidents Cup (where he won three of his four matches). He finished T10 in his only previous appearance in Las Vegas in 2008.

Hideki Matsuyama, £2.0m
The Japanese 21-year-old has gone from strength to strength since turning pro in April, with three wins and two runners-up finishes in his homeland and top 10s at the Open Championship and US Open in 2013. He finished T3 in the Frys.Com Open last week.

Graham DeLaet, £1.0m
Canada’s top golfer notched five top 10s, including a trio of top-threes, in his last 13 starts this year prior to his Presidents Cup debut where he won three and halved one of his five matches. Led the Tour in total driving, ranked third in GIR and 20th in par breakers in 2013 season.

John Peterson, £1.0m
The Web.Com Tour graduate had five top fives on that Tour before finishing T21 in the Frys.Com Open last week, where he ranked seventh inside 10 feet and went 58-for-58 from six feet and in. Expect big things from him on the PGA Tour this season.
