Fantasy Golf: WGC – HSBC Champions preview

It’s nearing crunch time in the TG Fantasy Golf game and this week’s WGC – HSBC Championship at Sheshan International GC in Shanghai, China, is worth double points.

The tournament counts towards the European Tour’s 2013 Race to Dubai and the PGA Tour’s 2013-14 FedEx Cup standings for the first time, so there’s plenty for the 77-man field to play for.

Ian Poulter won this event at Mission Hills last year but the 7,266-yard par 72 layout at Sheshan International hosted from the inaugural tournament in 2005 to 2011.

Big hitters did well when the course was overseeded with Rye grass for its debut as a World Golf Championship in 2009, but the course has matured and now offers more of an all-around test. Having said that, scoring should remain low with plenty of eagle and birdie chances on offer.

Here is TG’s six-man team for the WGC – HSBC Champions:

Justin Rose, £4.2m
The US Open champion has only played in the PGA Grand Slam of Golf in Bermuda since finishing 6th at the PGA Tour Championship, but he’s recorded seven top 10s and a further six tops 20s this year. Tied for 7th in his only appearance at Sheshan International in 2011.

Keegan Bradley, £3.0m
The American’s finished inside the top 25 in all seven of his strokepley WGC appearances to date, including T16 here in 2011. He’s notched top 20s in seven of his last eight starts and was the 36-hole leader in last week’s CIMB Classic.

Sergio Garcia, £3.0m
Garcia has 24 top 25s in his last 30 starts worldwide, including a run of T4-T18-T9-T11 coming into this week. He won at Sheshan in 2008 and has also finished 23rd and 46th.

Martin Kaymer, £2.5m
The former world number one has made 15 consecutive cuts and has top 13s in his last three starts. His record at Sheshan reads 20-6-30-Win.

Jimmy Walker, £1.3m
The American has moved into the top 50 in the world rankings with a win at the Frys.Com Open and three more top 12s in his last four starts. He’s making his debut at Sheshan International.

Peter Uihlein, £1.0m
The 2010 US Amateur champion notched his maiden professional victory at the Madeira Islands Open earlier this year and added runners-up finishes at the Wales Open and Dunhill Links. He finished T5 at last week’s BMW Masters.
