Walker strolls to Sony Open victory

A bogey-free seven-under-par final round of 63 saw Jimmy Walker win the Sony Open in Hawaii by one shot from compatriot Chris Kirk.

The victory was Walker’s second on the PGA Tour having won the Frys.com Open in October. He picked up seven birdies on Sunday to finish 17-under par for the tournament.

“I felt very calm and controlled. That’s what you’ve got to feel and do when it’s time to win. It’s easy to say, hard to do. But today was awesome. Really cool golf.”

The lead changed hands multiple times on Sunday with Kirk, Jerry Kelly and Harris English staying in contention until the final few holes.

Kirk started the day in front but bogeyed the fourth hole. He then made six birdies across the last 10 holes to finish a stroke behind eventual-winner Walker.

A shot further back was tour veteran Kelly, who fired a five-under par 65, but would rue bogeys on the first and 14th holes.

English signed for a second three-under-par round of 67, missing crucial birdie putts on the last three holes.
