Noren wins home event in style

Swede Alex Noren registered his second Nordea Masters title today, carding a final round 71 to win by four shots at PGA Sweden National.

After beginning his round with a birdie on the par 5 1st, Noren –  winner of this event in 2011 – bogeyed the second and his two shot overnight lead was halved.

But the 32 year old, who began the 2015 European Tour season on a medical extension after suffering tendinitis in both wrists last year, reeled off 15 straight pars before birdieing the last to finish -12.

He said: “I’m so pleased. Now I can relax a bit because it was probably the toughest weekend in terms of wind I’ve ever felt.

“When you’re in the lead you can think a lot, and it was very tough. I hit a few bad shots, but I played quite well on the back nine.

Søren Kjeldsen, winner of last week’s Irish Open at Royal County Down,  finished second this time on -8 two clear of four players – local hero  Jens Dantorp, Alexander Levy, Sebastian Soderberg and Maximilian .

But there was no fairytale finale for another strongly fancied Swede – World no. 4 Henrik Stenson – who signed off with a 74 for a share of 13th place.
