Who to follow at the US Open

Jordan Spieth’s quest for the 2015 calendar year Grand Slam begins on Thursday at 2:17pm PT (10:17 p.m. GMT) at Chambers Bay.

The reigning Masters champion will play the first two rounds of the U.S. Open with Jason Day and Justin Rose, who won the season’s second major in 2013. The threesome tees off the first hole. (See our guide to the back 9 at Chambers Bay right here!)

Phil Mickelson’s bid to complete the career Grand Slam gets under way even earlier on Thursday. Mickelson tees off No. 1 at 7:33 a.m. PT (10:33 a.m. ET) with two-time Masters champ Bubba Watson and former U.S. Open champion Angel Cabrera.

Martin Kaymer’s U.S. Open title defense begins at 8:28 a.m. PT (11:28 a.m. ET) on the 10th tee. He’ll play with world No. 1 Rory McIlroy and reigning US Amateur champ Gunn Yang of Korea. McIlroy won last year’s Open Championship and PGA Championship.

Tiger Woods, the three-time U.S. Open champion, follows Spieth’s group. He’s paired with PLAYERS champion Rickie Fowler and Louis Oosthuizen of South Africa at 2:28 p.m. PT (5:28 p.m. ET) off No. 1.

A field of 156 players will play 18 holes of stroke play on June 18 and 19, after which the field will be reduced to the low 60 scores and ties.

Those players making the cut will play 18 holes on June 20 and 21. If there is a tie upon the completion of 72 holes, a scheduled 18-hole playoff will be played on June 22 at 9 a.m. If this playoff results in a tie, the tied players will immediately continue to play off hole-by-hole until the winner is determined.
