Spieth secures stunning Valspar Championship victory

Young American Jordan Spieth again displayed his immense talent and potential by dramatically winning the Valspar Championship at Innisbrook, Florida, last night.

The 21-year-old clinched his second US PGA Tour title on the third extra hole by making a 28-foot birdie putt to beat fellow countrymen Patrick Reed and Sean O’Hair.

Earlier, Reed rammed in a 30-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to cap off a 5-under 66 but was later joined at -10 by Spieth, who had scrambled so brilliantly on what he described as “a crazy back nine,” and O’Hair who weighed in with a  30-foot birdie on the 16th.

But the day belonged to Spieth and on this form there will be clearly many more to come although the victor played down his winning putt. “That’s just luck…I guess it was my day.”

Pick of the Europeans was Swede Henrik Stenson, making his Innisbrook debut, who ran off three straight birdies and closed with a 67 to fall one shot short of the play-off.
