US PGA Championship to move to BBC

According to a report in the guardian, the BBC have secured rights to the US PGA Championship at Quail Hollow in a deal to be announced soon.

Last week, Ewan Murray revealed that Sky Sports had lost live rights to the final major of the year – only a year after they became the first broadcaster to host all four major championships.

The announcement of the breakdown of talks with Sky came just days after Sky Sports unveiled a new dedicated golf channel, and now it looks like the BBC will bring back live coverage of a major a year after they lost the Open.

Tournament organisers had given indications they would be moving elsewhere with coverage, and had said ““We want the broadest distribution we can possibly have and are very excited about the plan we have in place.”

As a result, speculation was that a shift away from television coverage as a bigger move to a ‘multi platform’ was promised, but now Murray has revealed this new deal with the BBC could be officially announced by the end of Open week.
