It will be the Battle of The Brabazon this September, as the Quinn Insurance British Masters returns to The Belfry for the third consecutive year.
Organisers of the prestigious tournament have today confirmed that the event will take place from 25 – 28th September 2008 on the world famous course, host to four past Ryder Cup events.
Reigning champion Lee Westwood will be returning to the scene of his 2007 victory to defend his title against other stars of the golf world, all competing for the £1.8 million prize fund.
Westwood’s 2007 Quinn Insurance British Masters victory came after an exhilarating final round, which saw him overtake leader Mark Foster and hold off the challenge of Ian Poulter. “It was a great victory and I hardly put a foot wrong,” says Westwood, currently third on the European Tour Order of Merit.
“Winning the Quinn Insurance British Masters was a major highlight of 2007. Now that we are getting ready for the 2008 event, I’m looking forward to meeting the challenge of all those who come to compete.”
QUINN-Insurance is once again the tournament title sponsor, maintaining its links with sport and strengthening its position in the UK marketplace as a leading provider of motor and commercial insurance.
Colin Morgan, General Manager of QUINN-Insurance says; “2008 will be the third time we are sponsors of this exciting event and we are really looking forward to being involved – it is, after all, one of the biggest tournaments in the European Tour calendar.”
Andrew ‘Chubby’ Chandler, Managing Director of promoters International Sports Management, adds; “Let the Battle of the Brabazon commence! For the past few years, The Belfry has proved a very successful venue for the Quinn Insurance British Masters and we are looking forward to, yet again, attracting some of Europe’s finest golfers, to entertain professionals and spectators alike.”
