May17 Harringtondeal

Order of Merit winner Padraig Harrington has been snapped up by the Bank of Ireland who today announced it has signed up Ireland’s leading golfer in a three-year sponsorship deal.

Harrington will represent Bank of Ireland around the world. He will sport Bank of Ireland branding on his golf clothing as well as host a number of corporate golf days for the Bank during the year.

World No.12 Harrington said: “I am extremely proud that such a respected Irish brand as Bank of Ireland has chosen me to represent them in the world of golf. As a company with great heritage, it is very flattering that they see me as the right spokesperson for their brand as they target international growth and I am really looking forward to working with them over the next few years.”

In terms of hard cash, the actual worth of the tie-up is unknown but should considerably boost Harrington’s bank balance.

Harrington will be aiming to celebrate the deal in style with victory in this week’s Irish Open which started at Adare Manor today (thurs).

Winner of the 2006 European Order of Merit, Harrington’s impressive CV includes ten European Tour wins, two PGA Tour titles as well as three Irish PGA Championships. He has represented Europe in the Ryder Cup four times, including their historic victory at the K Club, and played in Ireland’s World Cup team for 11 consecutive years, including a victory in 1997, with partner Paul McGinley.
