Vijay Singh has his eyes on clinching a unique PGA double at Wentworth later this month.

No player has won both the US PGA Championship and the European Tour’s flagship event –  the BMW PGA Championship – titles but 44-year-old Fijian Singh will be aiming to re-write the record books when he tees it up at Wentworth on May 24-27.

Singh has won the US PGA title twice in 1998 and 2004 with his 2000 US Masters success sandwiched in-between.

Singh has an impressive Wentworth record – he has only missed one cut in his previous 11 appearances though he hasn’t played the West Course since fellow major champion Ernie Els recently refurbished it.

Confirmed Singh: “I’ve always enjoyed coming to Wentworth and I have some great memories of the place. I’ve heard many glowing reports of Ernie’s changes and woukld like nothing better than to become the first player to win the PGA titles on both sides of the Atlantic.”

The eagerly-awaited BMW event promises to be one of the highlights of the season with many of  the world’s top players due to take part including major champions Ernie Els and Retief Goosen plus most of last year’s Ryder Cup heroes such as Padraig Harrington, Paul Casey and David Howell.

Ian Poulter had a change of heart and will now be taking his place at Wentworth after all while young Aussie ace Adam Scott is also likely to prove a big draw.

All in all it should be a bumper golfing week and if you want to see the stars in action in the flesh – as usual BBC TV will be covering the event –  check out the www.europeantourtickets.com website or call 0800 023 2557.
