Today’s Golfer takes a look at what’s in the bag of Ryder Cup star Ludvig Aberg – a winner on both PGA and European Tours.

It’s been quite the debut season for Sweden’s Ludvig Aberg, who less than three months after turning professional, lifted the 2023 Omega European Masters trophy before going on to help Team Europe to an emphatic victory at the Ryder Cup in Rome.
The ‘generational talent’ as dubbed by Luke Donald wasn’t done with 2023 there, however.
On route to his first PGA Tour victory at the RSM Classic, Aberg carded a record-equaling 72-hole score of 29-under (tied with Justin Thomas) to win by four shots, additionally setting a Tour record for the lowest score over three consecutive rounds (64, 61, 61).
Having won two of his 14 professional events played since turning pro in June, Aberg has established himself firmly in the top 50 of the Offical Golf World Rankings, qualifying for the 2024 season-opening The Sentry and the Masters, which will be his first Major championship.
Remarkably, the Swede has finished outside the top 25 just three times since turning professional, with T14 his worst finish in his last eight events prior to winning the RSM.
Key to this success is Aberg’s ability off the tee, combining distance and accuracy in a way that very few of his rivals can match. He missed just 10 fairways and 10 greens all week in Georgia, making only one bogey.
Aberg’s breakthrough win had come at the 2023 Omega European Masters where four birdies in the final five holes closed out a final round 64, at the majestic Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club, situated 1500 meters above sea level, looking out to Mont Blanc and the iconic Matterhorn.
Finishing 19-under, the Swede held off fellow countryman Alexander Bjork by two shots and the charging Fitzpatrick brothers, Matt and Alex who finished T3 and T5 respectively.
Aberg’s decision to resist the temptation to turn pro and remain in college for an additional season appears to be paying dividends, showing a level of patience and maturity that will no doubt serve him well as he prepares to enter 2024 with a weight of expectation growing heavier by the day.
Aberg was named the Ben Hogan Award winner, as the best college player in the United States (Texas Tech University), for a second successive year in May 2023 – the only other player to do so being a certain Jon Rahm.

What fairway wood does Ludvig Aberg use?
Ludvig Aberg uses a TaylorMade Stealth 2 fairway wood (15°) with a Fujikura Ventus TR Blue 8 X shaft
Thanks to lowering the center of gravity inside the Stealth 2 head, the high CT area is more aligned with where golfers impact shots when hitting from the turf. The idea is simple but it means shots are easier to flight, with additional speed. TaylorMade has achieved it by reducing face and crown height by 2mm and positioning sizeable internal mass towards the rear of the head.

Ludvig Aberg uses a Titleist Pro V1x golf ball
The urethane cover on the Pro V1x is created by mixing two components, with the liquid urethane cast into Titleist-manufactured cavities to form the appropriate dimple pattern into the cover. Titleist says the precise timing and temperature are integral to the consistency of golf’s No.1 ball.
