PING i25 woods and irons hit shops today

PING has unveiled its new i25 line up of woods and irons designed to offer distance and forgiveness consistently for all abilities of golfer – and they’re on sale today!

A distinguishing characteristic of the i25 driver and fairway woods are patented racing stripes on the crown. The same width as a golf ball, the stripes offer a visual cue (consciously or sub-consciously) that can help aim the clubface accurately, align your body to the target and assist in taking the club back on the correct path.

“Our constant push for innovation continues to inspire technologies that help every type of golfer play better,” said John A. Solheim, PING Chairman & CEO. “The new metal woods and irons carry a common theme of increased distance but are engineered with the improved consistency, forgiveness and feel that we design into all PING clubs. Together with a proper fitting to determine the best combination of models, golfers can expect improved performance throughout their set.”

To optimise performance with the i25 driver, fairway woods and hybrids, PING engineered an industry-first shaft series that offers different weights and flex profiles without altering the club’s swingweight. Called PWR (Performance, Weighting, and Responsiveness), the shafts are matched to golfers by the weight and flex that fits their swing and desired shot shape.

i25 Adjustable Driver

The i25 driver features two high-density tungsten weights in the rear of the sole to raise the MOI and lower the CG to reduce spin for a flatter ball flight and a landing angle that maximises roll out. Using Trajectory Tuning technology, standard lofts are adjustable +-1/2º. The lightweight, adjustable hosel maintains the same outer diameter and mass of PING’s traditional fixed hosels and provides the benefits of adjustability without sacrificing the performance that’s often lost in clubs with bulkier designs. PING’s industry-first PWR shaft family offers unique weights and stiffness profiles without altering swingweight.

Details: Lofts 8.5°, 9.5°, 10.5° (Adjustable +- ½ degree) RRP £345 in PWR 55, 65 or 75 shafts.

Fairway woods

The big change for the adjustable i25 fairway wood over its predecessor can be found in the face. Tour players reported they like to see more clubface when hitting from tight lies and the rough. So PING has made the face taller, thus enlarging the face, and also added the racing stripes to assist alignment. A lower CG than the i20 model boosts ball speeds with reduced spin.

Hybrids

PING has designed the new i25 hybrid to be easier to align like an iron by introducing a much squarer leading edge on a more compact head. The 17-4 stainless steel face is also flatter without much bulge and roll to make shots easier to control. The hosel has been moved slightly forward to create that high launch, low spin combination but also to make the gapping into the long irons easier. Progressive CG means the location moves lower and closer to the face as the loft increases to optimise trajectory.

i25 Irons

Like its predecessor, the 17-4 stainless steel i25 iron has progressive amounts of bounce, offset and CG as you work through the set. Cosmetically, the new model is much cleaner, but they will also feel slightly softer thanks to the use of a softer insert. The long irons are slightly larger to raise the MOI with a wider sole to assist the strike. The mid to short irons are more compact with thinner top lines and narrower soles to encourage a lower ball flight.

Another key to performance are dual stabilizing bars – narrow in the long irons, wider in the short irons. Narrow bars increase ball speed and spin for a higher flight while wide bars in the short irons reduce face deflection for a lower flight and maximum control.

Details: Available 3-9, PW, UW, SW, LW. £90 (steel), £110 (graphite).
