Safeway Open: Betting Tips and TV Times for the third event of the 2019/20 PGA Tour season
The PGA Tour heads to Silverado Silverado Resort and Spa North for the third event of the new season, having had two first time winners at both A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier and Sanderson Farms Championship in Joaquin Niemann and Sebastian Munoz.
Last year, history was made at the Safeway Open as Kevin Tway joined his dad Bob Tway in becoming the 10th father-son duo to win on Tour. He did it by holing a 10-foot birdie putt to win the playoff against Ryan Moore and Brandt Snedeker, who had held a four-shot leading heading in to the back nine.
All three players return this week, along with world top 10 players Justin Thomas and Patrick Cantlay, who are a number of golfers making their first starts of the 2019/20 PGA Tour season.
This marks the 13th edition of this tournament, and it’s fifth time being staged at Silverado.

Justin Thomas: 13/2
Making his first start since a T9 at the Tour Championship, which was the culmination of an incredible run – including a win at the BMW Championship, another top 10 at the ASI Scottish Open and three top 12s in between at The Open, WGC FedEx St Jude and The Northern Trust. T8 the last time he played this event in 2016, and was T3 in 2015. Ranks 1st birdie average, 2nd for both SG: Tee to green and SG: Approach, 5th for Scoring average, 6th for GIR and 8th for SG: Around the green.
Patrick Cantlay: 10/1
Also making his first start of the season this week. Cantlay struggled to an unexpected 28th place at the Tour Championship, which followed a runner-up finish to Thomas at the BMW and back-to-back T12s at the WGC FedEx and The Northern Trust. Won at Memorial earlier in the year, and was T17 here last year. Ranks 2nd Scoring average, 4th Birdie average, 5th SG: Tee to green, 6th SG: Around the green and 10th SG: Approach the green.
Adam Scott: 14/1
Scott closed out the PGA Tour season with a run of T5-T9-T5 at The Northern Trust, BMW Championship and Tour Championship, which were just three of six top 10s in his last eight starts. Making his first start at the Safeway Open. Ranks inside the top 10 on the PGA Tour for Scoring average, birdie average, SG: Tee to green, SG: Approach the green and SG: Around the green.
Hideki Matsuyama: 14/1
Searching for his first win on Tour since the 2017 WGC Bridgestone Invitational, and finished the season with a 3rd place at the BMW Championship and T12 at East Lake. Hasn’t played here since a T17 in 2015, and has a best of T3 in 2014. Ranks 3rd SG: Tee to green, 5th SG: Approach the green, 7th Birdie average, 12th for both Scoring average and SG: Around the green, and 20th for GIR.
Sungjae Im: 22/1
Had the Sanderson Farms in his grasp but ended up with a learning experience instead as a mistake on the playoff hole lost him the hole – and the tournament – to a par. Still, his second place followed a T11 at the BMW Championship, T15 at the Tour Championship and T19 at The Greenbrier, proving his talent is going nowhere. T4 here on his debut last year. Ranks 4th Birdie average, 6th SG: Putting and 20th for scoring average.
Byeong Hun-An: 28/1
Recorded his second 3rd place finish in five starts at last week’s Sandersons Farms Championship, and still searching for his first win on the PGA Tour. Making his first start this week. Ranks 3rd driving distance and 25th for SG: Around the green.
Brandt Snedeker: 30/1
After a T6 at The Northern Trust and T5 at the BMW Championship, Snedeker struggled to a T23 at the Tour Championship and finished T45 in his first start of the new season last week. However, he was T2 here last year after losing in the playoff, and T17 in 2015. Ranked 3rd SG: Around the green and 12th SG: Putting last season.
Ryan Moore: 45/1
Had back-to-back top 20s before finishing his season with a T37 at the BMW Championship, and has rested since then. He finished T2 last year after losing out in the playoff, and has a T10 and a T17 in two other starts here. Ranks 2nd Driving accuracy, 16th SG: Approach the green and 28th SG: Tee to green.
Kevin Tway: 66/1
The defending champion won in a playoff here last year, and returns for his first start on the PGA Tour since a T24 at The Northern Trust and a T11 at the BMW Championship. Ranks 34th SG: Around the green.
Harris English: 80/1
After his T26 at the Korn Ferry Tour Championship, English has had an excellent start to the new season, finishing T3 at The Greenbrier and T6 last week at the Sanderson Farms Championship. Hasn’t typically performed well here (a best of T35 in ’16), but is definitely in form. Ranks 3rd Scoring average, 4th for birdie average and driving accuracy, and 9th for both GIR and SG: Putting so far this season.
