Two things have stopped the brilliance of Silloth becoming more widely known: its remote location means only the determined find it – and the nearby power station is an undeniable eyesore. It is, though, otherwise a splendid links, which cuts through sand hills west of the town with definition provided by heather, gorse and broom. It hosts the English Amateur next year.
