There is a distinct feeling of a bygone era at Swinley, from the sign at the bottom of the gate which is no bigger than a sheet of A4 to the fact scorecards have only recently been introduced and stroke indexes are simply arranged 1-18 as per the hole number. This is a course to be enjoyed and appreciated rather than overpowered. It is beautiful with bursts of colour on every hole, whether from purple rhododendrons or acres of heather. England’s mini Augusta? It’s not a bad comparison.
