What we say...

Vokey is the UK’s the biggest-selling wedge brand and has endorsements from some of the best short-game exponents in the world, including Phil Mickelson and Ernie Els, so you probably don’t need TG to point out these are mighty fine golf clubs.

The look, in the manner of most Titleist clubs, is very plain and business-like. The compact heads are straight-edged and almost identical from 48degree to 60 degree, so don’t expect huge, shovel-like sand wedg. Indeed, bunker shots with a Vokey can be daunting if you haven’t put in the requisite hours of practice.

For part shots to the pin and chips around the green, however, Vokeys are hard to beat. Their perfect balance and neat cosmetics mean that it’s easy to feel the club head becoming an extension of your hands. As with the TaylorMade racs, high handicappers may find them harsh at impact, but better players will find the super-sensitive feel ideal for improving their wedge play.

As seems to be the norm these days, Vokeys come in several finishes. This Oil Can look is achieved through a heat oxide treatment which leaves a dull coppery colour that wears away in time. There may not be any particular performance benefits, but it damn sure marks you out as a SERIOUS golfer.

Verdict: Legendary clubs with classic looks. Not as forgiving as some, but that’s why the world’s best chippers and pitchers love them so much.
