Ally (McDonald) Ewing grew up playing golf in Mississippi and she went on to play college golf at Mississippi State University, where she won five events. Since turning pro back in 2015, Ewing has gone on to win three times on the LPGA Tour and represent the USA in the Solheim Cup.

Ewing’s latest victory was in September 2022 at the Kroger Queen City Championship (she finished fourth this season). Her first victory on the LPGA Tour was in 2020 at the LPGA Drive On Championship where she defeated fellow American and Solheim Cup teammate Danielle Kang.

The victory between those two was at the Bank of Hope LPGA Match-Play in 2021 – a sign of a good match-play competitor. However, this form hasn’t yet materialized in the Solheim Cup, with the American having a losing record on all appearances at the 2019, 2021 and 2023 Solheim Cup.

The Mississippi-born golfer headed to the 2023 Solheim Cup as one of Stacy Lewis’ Captain’s picks on the back of a very solid season on the LPGA Tour. Despite not having the best performance at the Solheim Cup in Andalucia, Ewing will be hoping she can find some form going into the 2024 season.

Ewing had a difficult start to life on the LPGA Tour because shortly after earning her Tour card she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, this makes her record on Tour even more impressive.

At the start of the season, Ewing made the switch from G425 to G430, specifically the LST model. This is the lower spinning and less forgiving head in the range and seems to be the most popular Tour option. She ranks better for distance (35th) than accuracy (54th) but both are above the Tour average.

Ewing might have the newest Ping driver in the bag, but she still holds on to the older Ping G425 fairway wood and once again it's the LST model. Ewing uses this as a tee box replacement and from the fairway when approaching par 5s. As the low-spinning model, the ball flies off this club and almost keeps up with her driver.

Ewing's third wood in the bag is a Ping G430 Hybrid. This club sits perfectly between her fairway wood and 4-iron, and it's easier to hit than a driving iron and more versatile than both an iron and a fairway wood. It doesn't often come out of the bag but when it does it's mostly very effective.

It's very interesting looking through the bags of Ping Tour players. Some players have made the switch to the new Ping i230s whereas some have stuck with the older Ping i210s. Ewing, like Viktor Hovland, has hung on to her Ping i210s. Why not? This season Ewing ranks 10th for GIR in 2023.

Like the irons, there is a divide between Ping staffers and what wedges they play with. Ewing is in the camp of Glide 4.0 wedges. She has three of them in the bag that gap perfectly with her irons. The American doesn't have the best short game but luckily she rarely misses the green from the fairway.

The first piece of equipment in Ewing's bag that isn't Ping, is the golf balls she uses. She plays with Titleist Pro V1x golf balls (what else). Ping doesn't make golf balls anymore hence why she doesn't use them, but it would have to be a quality golf ball to stop her from using Pro V1x's
