Golf ‘up north’ has received a big boost following the news that North East businessman Graham Wylie is investing £8m into redevelopment projects at classy Close House Hotel and golf course at Heddon on the Wall, Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
The existing golf course at this beautiful hotel has recently undergone a complete update to the tune of over one million pounds, with a further seven million pounds allocated for a second championship course plus a swish new £2m clubhouse overlooking the lake in the grounds.
The new course has been named the ‘Colt’ course as a tribute to the famous golf course architect Harry Colt.
“The future is very exciting for this magnificent hotel and golf club” said John Glendinning, Golf Operations Manager of the golf club.
He added: “This will bring a great deal of interest into the region, and will compliment what we currently offer at Close House Hotel perfectly. Guests will be able to build golf into their weekends away, or indeed conduct business on the course, as we are just a few minutes drive from Newcastle city centre and the airport” .
