*Wychwood Park, Cheshire – A golfing paradise, Wychwood is the home of a quality open parkland layout supported by a luxury on-site De Vere hotel.

The course has hosted the first stages of European Tour qualifying and provides a major all-round challenge and though the fairways are fairly generous, the rough can be pretty high in the summer. You particularly need to be on your guard at the monster 484-yards par-4 4th and the 188-yards par-3 penultimate hole dominated by water.

*KP Club, near York – Built on 120 acres of rolling terrain with the Yorkshire Wolds as a striking backdrop, this track has been entertaining golfers from near and wide since opening in 1994.

*Thorpeness, Suffolk – Quality heathland golf, and this James Braid gem magically meanders through silver birches, gorse and heather close to the Suffolk coast.

*The Belfry (PGA National) – A worthy no.2 course to the world-famous Brabazon Ryder Cup track. It was created by Dave Thomas and is arguably an even tougher, more intimidating layout.

*Oake Manor, Somerset – Well-established American-style parkland course with a series of lakes, waterfalls and trout stream running through it. 

*Moffat, Dumfries & Galloway – Short and sweet sums up ultra-scenic Moffat which sits in the heart of the southern uplands in Scottish border country.
