2-FORE!-1: six of the best

Six more top courses where you can tee it up in terrific 2-FORE!-1 style…

*Okehampton, Devon – Classy parkland with great greens which set out as a J.H. Taylor nine holer in 1913 but became a ‘full’ course a decade later. It’s a little cracker in the heart of delightful Devon, sheltered by the high tors of Dartmoor.

*The Bristol – Splendid modern golf complex expertly run by Crown Golf. It opened in 2000, is set in 200 year old historic parkland with stunning views across the Severn Estuary, and its mature trees and numerous water features provide a thrilling round.

*Leighton Buzzard, Beds – This is where Ryder Cup hero Ian Poulter learnt his golfing skills and offers a good mixture of woodland and heathland holes. It’s not the longest track with two par four holes measuring less than 255 yards. But with pines, birch, beech and oak trees lining most of the fairways, it provides a stern all round examination.

*Stockley Pines, Middlesex – Great location for those flyers amongst you – it’s right by Heathrow airport! Opened in 1993, and designed by Trent Jones Senior, it has benefited big-time from a recent major facelift.

*Selsdon Park, Surrey – Top stay and play venue just outside Croydon. Five-time Open champion  J.H. Taylor designed this undulating parkland course and he used all his repertoire of design skills to engineer a fine test for the ‘thinking” golfer.

*Borth and Ynyslas, Wales – A beautiful out-and-back traditional links that overlooks Cardigan Bay on the estuary of the Dovey River.
