Ian Wilkie bags fifth club title on the trot

Bristol’s Thornbury Golf Centre witnessed a five star performance in its Club Championship, won for the fifth consecutive year by Ian Wilkie.

Extending his remarkable 100% record in the annual 36-hole competition, the two-handicapper recorded rounds of 69 and 71-gross to set the low target of two-under par in the clubhouse.

Ian’s win wasn’t quite as comfortable as 2012’s victory when he won by five shots, but despite sharing the lead at the halfway stage, runner-up Jeremy Nicholls could only muster a one-over par second round 72. James Cumber made up some ground in his final round, scoring 69 to take third place.

The fiercely contested Club Championship consists of handicap and gross events on the 6,308-yard Marlwood Course at Thornbury – part of BGL Golf, the UK’s leading golf course owner and operator – which offers beautiful panoramic views over the rolling countryside, across the Severn Estuary to Wales and the distant Cotswold Hills.

Richard Dakin, Thornbury Golf Centre General Manager, said: “The Club Championship is always keenly contested and it was great to see Jeremy giving Ian a run for his money this year.
