A cracking Cornish clifftop layout and a long established super Surrey venue are among this week’s pick of 2-FORE!-1 Golf – the biggest and best discounted green fee scheme in golf.
*Linden Hall (pictured), Northumberland – This impressive Macdonald hotels venue is well worth pencilling into your diary for the new season. It’s a mature parkland layout and you have to deal with a double dogleg par-5 finale to a green surrounded by water as well as a cracking quartet of par-3s.
*Carlyon Bay (pictured), Cornwall – Dramatically perched high on the cliffs at St Austell, Carlyon is an outstanding clifftop and parkland golf combination. Most of the thrills and spills are experienced on the clifftop on the front nine and around the turn – the 10th is a sensational par-5 with an elevated tee and drop fairway. The coastal views are simply out of this world and will take your breath away.
*Guildford, Surrey – Founded in 1886, Guildford is the oldest course in Surrey and is probably the driest – the downland layout rolls over chalk-based terrain so you’re virtually guaranteed a game. The short par-4 4th is the highest point with stunning views of four counties.
*Nizels, Kent – Plotted on high ground overlooking Kentish Weald countryside, Nizels is a fine modern parkland track ably supported by a health & fitness club.
*College Pines, Notts – Boasts excellent natural drainage and is always in fine fettle though you need to take extra care on some tees, specially the left dogleg opening hole with a ditch running across the front of the green.
*Edzell, Scotland – One of the finest inland layouts north of the border, the main course is a superb heathland with many improvements in recent years.
