Alvaro Quiros in the bag: Dubai World Championship winning clubs

Before the first ball was hit all the attention was focussed on Luke Donald and Rory McIlroy and their tussle over the Race to Dubai – but Alvaro Quiros obviously had other matters on his mind.

The Spaniard, who kicked off his season in style with victory in Dubai in January, completed the double as he overpowered the lengthy Earth Course with a -19total to win the Dubai World Championship by two shots.

Quiros led the field in driving distance by averaging 310.9 yards off the tee using his Callaway Razr-Fit driver, while the second-best average was 303.5 yards. He also hit 83 per cent of greens in regulation enroute to victory.

The win was the first worldwide for the new Razr-Fit driver, due to launch to the public in February next year. He also used the new Odyssey ProType putter and we’ll have more information in issue 292 of Today’s Golfer magazine, on sale 26 January.

Quiros said: “For my entire career the driver has been the most important club in my bag. Now I’ve got the Razr Fit, I know I have a driver that I can trust. I am hitting this driver straighter and longer than my last one for sure.  I hit the Razr Fit once and I knew straight away it was going in the bag! I’ve worked really hard with the Callaway guys to get the club dialled in to my perfect settings and it’s paid off this week. So a big thank-you to everyone at Callaway.”
