Louis Oosthuizen In The Bag: Volvo Golf Champions Winning Clubs

Louis Oosthuizen overhauled Scott Jamieson’s five-shot final round lead by firing a sensational closing 66 to win the Volvo Golf Champions in South Africa.
The home favourite’s six-under-par at Durban Country Club provided his sixth European Tour title, the €350,000 first prize and elevates him to a career-high fourth in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Jamieson just missed out on earning his second win in Durban in six weeks after a level par final round left him one shot back. He almost forced a play-off, but his chip for eagle on the short 273-yard par-4 last stopped two inches from the hole.
The win means Oosthuizen pushes Englishman Justin Rose down to fifth in the world rankings.
“It was a great week – a lot of things happened,” said the 30-year-old, who on Friday won a new excavator for his farm when he was part of the winning team in the day’s pro-am format.
“After being five down, to make it up after 12 holes, I was really chuffed about that. I just played really well all day.”
His round was vaulted by six birdies in the first 11 holes, before picking up another shot at 14, before missing a three-footer at the 16th.
With the door slightly ajar, Jamieson could only push his approach on the 16th into a plugged lie in the bunker and took a bogey, meaning he needed an improbable eagle at the last.
“Louis’s a Major Champion – there’s no shame in losing to him,” said the Jamieson. “I gave it my all, but it wasn’t to be.”
Jamieson will move up to around 70th in the new rankings on Monday and if he can make it into the top 50 by the end of March there will be the reward of a Masters Tournament debut.
Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee took third place on 14-under-par after closing with a round of 68, while Ireland’s Padraig Harrington shot 68 to climb to fourth in the 33-man field.
