New Vokey SM6 Wedges revealed

Bob Vokey boasts years of experience of working with some of the best short game exponents in golf. He’s developed specialist wedge grinds with Phil Mickelson and Steve Stricker amongst others and all this knowledge and experimentation constantly leads to new learning’s and idea’s. It’s these new ideas which have lead to the new SM6 designs. What’s Vokey realised? Well he’s spotted how the centre of gravity locations on wedges got lower from the least lofted to the most lofted. Pretty logical really because the higher lofts tend to have wider soles. But when it comes to shot making this variation means inconsistencies in gapping and where you need to strike shots on the face for optimum performance.

Vokey’s solution has been to position the CG precisely for each of his new wedges. Meaning the approach wedge lofts (46deg – 52deg) all have the same CG location as do the sand play lofts (54deg – 56deg) and lob wedge lofts (58deg – 62deg).  What does this mean to you? Well the tech gives a progressive CG, meaning better gapping between lofts, improved feel and Titleist say an improvement of 1.5mph of ball speed.

The tech doesn’t stop there. Vokey’s also come up with a new process to mill micro grooves in between the standard face grooves to improve traction at impact and ultimately deliver more spin.  Vokey’s also renowned for his choice of sole grinds and the SM6’s don’t disappoint, there’s five ranging from low to high bounce and a choice of three finishes (Tour Chrome, Jet Black and Steel Grey).

Expect to see the SM6’s at retail from 11th March, for further information visit www.titleist.co.uk
