Danielle is huge hit for Macmillan Cancer Support

Charitable golfer Danielle Riggott and her family and friends from Nottinghamshire raised a fantastic £720 for Macmillan Cancer Support when they swung into action through their Big Golf Drive event – the Gavin Stewart Reast (GSR) Golf Day.

In memory of Danielle’s brother Gavin, friends and family of Gavin held a golf tournament at Rufford Golf Course, accompanied by a dinner dance, raffle and pub quiz – all to raise money to support Macmillan’s work. Local businesses such as Tesco and Centre Parcs also supported the event, boosting their sponsorship total.

Danielle says: ‘In 2007 we sadly lost my brother Gavin to cancer at the young age of 30. This loss was heart breaking for all that knew him and every year since we have held a fundraising event in Gavin’s memory.

“This year it was suggested that we would combine the event with Macmillan’s Big Golf Drive as we all appreciate the work that is done by Macmillan.’

This summer, golfers and golf clubs across the country will club together for the Big Golf Drive and hold events to raise money for people affected by cancer. Confirmed a spokesperson: “Whether you purchase a promotional green fee from teeofftimes.co.uk or organise an action packed golf day, Macmillan will be there to support you.”

Macmillan hopes that Big Golf Drive supporters across the UK will raise £50,000 to help Macmillan provide vital practical, emotional, medical and financial support to people affected by cancer and their families.
