The Open: Things you might have missed from round four at St Andrews

Ivor, thanks for the memories
After 41 years and 18,995 names, Ivor Robson finally called it a day as the official first tee announcer of the Open Championship. He’s incredibly popular with all the players, many of whom – Tom Watson and Rickie Fowler to name a couple – left gifts and posed for pictures with the Scot on the first tee.

Road Hell
Phil Mickelson left a present for somebody on their Old Course hotel balcony after spraying his drive off the tee on 17. Phil can’t have been happy after walking off with a seven and Paul Lawrie certainly wasn’t: ‘Stupid hole from back tee when into wind , hit driver three wood short today , it’s great hole from normal tee,’ tweeted the Scot.

Aussie grit
After making the cut by one, Marc Leishman battled back in spectacular fashion over the weekend to get in contention. It was nothing compared to his family’s battle over the last couple of months though. The Australian nearly quit the game to look after his children earlier this year after wife Audrey was diagnosed with acute respiratory distress syndrome and toxic shock syndrome. She was given just a five per cent chance of surviving but pulled through and is now healthy again.

History repeating?
Arnold Palmer was the last man to go to St Andrews having won the Masters and US Open early in the year. Like, Jordan Spieth today, Palmer was pipped back in 1960 by an Australian in the form of Kel Nagle. Funny old game.
