Robert Streb wins playoff at McGladrey Classic

Robert Streb claimed his first PGA Tour victory with a three-man playoff win at the McGladrey Classic.

Streb hit his second playoff hole tee shot to four feet and sank the birdie putt to come out on top against Brendon de Jonge and Will MacKenzie.

All three had finished 14 under par after four rounds at the Sea Island course in Georgia, after Streb had carded a round of 63, which was the lowest of that day.

MacKenzie was the first to lose out in the playoff after a bogey at the first extra hole. De Jonge missed a long birdie putt on the second extra hole, handing the victory to Streb.

The champion started the day five shots off the lead, but that became six after scoring a bogey on the first hole. He sunk four birdies on the front nine and had a run of four birdies in a row on the second half of the course.

Streb had to watch the two leaders from the clubhouse, but saw them unable to improve their scores over the last six holes.

“The wait was a little nerve-racking because they had the par five (15th hole),” he told the Golf Channel. “Obviously those last two short putts I was pretty shaky.”

Streb is now first on the FedEx Cup rankings with 600 points. He was placed 18th before the tournament and now sits 48 points clear of Ben Martin.
