Fantasy Golf: British Masters

The British Masters supported by Sky Sports returns this week with a top-class European field.

Hosted by Lee Westwood and featuring the likes of Major champions Rory McIlroy, Sergio Garcia, Martin Kaymer, Graeme McDowell, the 2017 edition of the British Masters promises to be an exhibition of European talent.

Alex Noren will be hoping to defend the title he won last year, although this time around the players will be heading to Close House in Newcastle to a course they’ve never played before.

As well as the four-day tournament they’ll be plenty of other things to entertain viewers and visitors to Close House, from Masterclasses and insights from top professionals to the Hero Challenge under the lights.

Across the pond this week, the President’s Cup is taking place between the USA and the International Team – and as a result there are no fantasy points on offer as it is a team event.

So who should feature in your fantasy golf team this week? Remember to change your team by midnight on Wednesday!

Fantasy Golf Picks: British Masters

Rory McIlroy: Fantasy Price £15m
McIlroy had a disappointing end to his PGA Tour season, failing to make it to the Tour Championships and losing his chance to defend the title he won last year. But prior to that there had been good signs, so it could well be that a couple of weeks off will have done the World No.6 a lot of good. It’s a bit of a hard one to predict, so we’ll leave you to decide. His last six results? T58 – MC – T34 – T22 – T5 – T4

Sergio Garcia: Fantasy Price £14.5m
Unike McIlroy, the Masters champ made Tour Championship and finished T10 in the event, leaving him 21st in the final FedEx Cup standings. He’s had three victories this year, is 2nd in the Race to Dubai and has two top 10s in his last seven outings – so we reckon there’s a strong chance Garcia will be a big contender this week.

Alex Noren: Fantasy Price £13m
The defending champion’s last victory came at the BMW PGA Championship in May, and with a strong finish a couple of weeks ago at the European Masters (T6), it’s  not unfathomable that he could win the tournament for a second time. In his last ten starts he’s had four top 10s, a victory and two missed cuts.

Chris Wood: Fantasy Price £11m
Motivated by a T9 finish at the KLM Open two weeks ago, Chris Wood is hoping to gain his first victory since the BMW PGA Championship in 2016. The Englishman has had a bit of a mixed bag of results this season, but it does include a top 10 and two top 5s, so it’s difficult to rule him out. His last five results? T9- MC- T33- T73 – T14.

Shane Lowry: Fantasy Price £12m
Lowry is another one who has had a very varied season, but a couple of solid performances in the past few weeks indicate his game is getting back to it’s best. A T7 at the Wyndham Championship on the PGA Tour was followed by a T29 at the Portugal Masters last week.

Bernd Wiesberger: Fantasy Price £11m
It’s a bit of a riskier call given his run of form in the past couple of months, but Wiesberger showed signs of a resurgance two weeks ago with a T9 finish at the KLM Open.

Dean Burmester: Fantasy Price £8.5
Burmy already has a victory under his belt this season, winning the Tshwane Open back in March, and he came close last week at the Portugal Masters, which makes us think he’s poised for another good week. His last five starts? T7 – T48 – T30 – T14 – T44.

Ian Poulter: Fantasy Price £8m
From temporarily losing his Tour card to being in contention at The Open and finishing runner-up at The Players Championship, it’s been quite a year for Poulter. He didn’t quite make the Tour Championship, but he’s had two top 10s in his last seven starts – and in his last two appearances on British soil, he was T14 at the Open and T9 at the Scottish Open.

Richie Ramsay: Fantasy Price £6m
The Scot hasn’t finished worse than 35th in his last 7 outings, which includes two top 10s. Ramsay hasn’t played since the KLM Open two weeks ago, but with a low fantasy value we think he’s an excellent bet this week.
