After such a daunting start, it may come as some relief to see served up next a par 4 that for the very long hitters might be within reach with the driver.
But how many will take on such a shot? Very few is our guess; such a gamble so early in the round might well turn out to be ill conceived.
Out of bounds runs down the left side – characterised by the boundary wall which runs down the west portion of the course – and comes within 15 feet of the green.
And yet the left is the ideal angle from which to approach the green, which has subtle borrows. So, the percentage play is a long iron from the tee to the left-hand half of the fairway leaving no more than a short iron to a tricky, well-bunkered contoured green.
Miss left and you’re OB. Miss short and right and you’re bound to find sand. This is an under-rated hole that rarely coughs up as many birdies as you might presume.
