The quirkiest Open venue remains fantastic fun in this era of 460cc-headed drivers. A 12-hole course was founded here in 1851 and it hosted the first Open in 1860. It was the venue for the first 12 Opens and it staged 24 in total.Now, however, it is much too short to test the world’s finest players, more’s the pity. For club golfers, though, it is pure gold, with blind shots aplenty, driveable par 4s and huge bunkers.
