Some of the slickest greens you could wish to putt on are found at a course that does not always receive the recognition Wales’ No.1 deserves. Off the back tees it stretches over 7,000 yards but position is as important as power – witness the short-hitting Gary Wolstenholme defeating a certain T Woods in the 1995 Walker Cup here. It’s more heathland than links, though the sea is usually in sight, before returning to more seaside fare for the final six holes.
